Frequently asked Questions

What is counselling?

The counselling room is a safe, non judgemental, confidential place to  share your worries, thoughts and emotions with a compassionate witness, it is not about being given answers but about being curious and looking at patterns and behaviour that may hold you back.

Do I need to be in crisis to access counselling?

Absolutely not. Many people find counselling helpful to  explore difficult emotions, look at patterns of behaviour, discuss big life decisions or simply have a safe space to bring what is on their mind.

Can we talk before booking a first session?

I offer a 15 minute free online chat, this is to check that we both feel we can work together.

What can I expect from my first session?

Your first session will be a chance for us to get to know each other, you can explain what has brought you to therapy and ask me any questions you may have about how I work.

What if I feel nervous about starting counselling?

I appreciate that I am a stranger to you and it is completely natural to feel nervous to begin counselling. I will do my utmost to make your first session as welcoming and gentle as possible, please feel free to let me know in advance if you feel particularly nervous, sometimes it helps to put those feelings out there, rather than hold them in.

When do you offer sessions?

I work Monday, Tuesday all day and Friday morning, I have some availability for early morning sessions and some evening sessions.

Where will my sessions take place?

I have a lovely purpose built garden room. It has heating and air conditioning. It is located in Mottingham Village. I also work online.

Can I park near by?

There is parking on the road where I live, for a few hours a day it is permit holders only but I can advise you of nearby roads that have free parking. I am on a busy bus route and a short walk from Mottingham station.

How often will we meet?

Weekly sessions are advised, however I am happy to discuss your needs and work with a schedule that suits you, if possible

How long will my session last?

Your counselling session will be one hour long.

How long will I need counselling for?

This varies from person to person. Some people are looking for short term counselling and find that six sessions is enough. Other people want to look at deeper, underlying issues that require longer term counselling of months or years, I work with both types of clients and we can regularly look at the focus of our work together and check that you are happy with the focus of our work.
